Introducing Nick!

Born and bred in Bury St Edmunds, I am blessed to have lived in different parts of Suffolk, including Elmswell, Stowmarket and Woodbridge.

In 1982 I married my high-school crush, best friend and soul mate Louise, we have two children, Sai and Kira, a daughter-in-law, Sophie, and son-in-law Paul – and three beautiful grandchildren Noah, Lacey and Holly. Oh yes, and how could I forget! We have an extremely energetic, Cockerpoo called Loki, and I swear he thinks he’s human!

I enjoy keeping myself fit and healthy by walking, jogging, skipping, kettlebells and Calisthenics – and I am an avid reader. I enjoy dabbling with writing, and I’m currently learning to play chess; poorly at present but thank goodness for YouTube!

I have always had a passion for teaching and training, particularly in Personal Safety, Conflict Management and Personal Development. Over the years, I have enjoyed learning and practicing various martial arts disciplines and combat sports, achieving multiple black-belt grades and instructor certifications.

My primary area of focus has always been on the areas of personal safety and self-protection. I believe that by teaching people to stay safe – at home, at work and in a public setting – we can help reduce anxiety levels, build strong self-confidence and increase awareness.

I began working in retail with various management positions. I left the retail Industry In 1982 to pursue my dream of teaching and coaching full-time. Over the next eighteen years, I built a network of martial arts, combat sports and self-protection classes for children and adults.

My teaching and training evolved into a personal mission to introduce as many people as possible to the benefits of fitness and self-protection training. So, in October 2006, I was delighted to get an opportunity to serve my community by applying for a position as a Personal Safety Trainer and Taser Lead Instructor with Suffolk & Norfolk Constabulary.

I thoroughly enjoyed the next sixteen years in my role, teaching Police Officers of various ranks and roles, including Regular Officers, Firearms Officers, Detectives, Surveillance Teams, Special Constables, and Police Staff from both Suffolk and Norfolk.

It was an honour and a pleasure to deliver Conflict Management, Defensive Tactics, Control & Restraint, Straight Baton, Irritant Spray, Handcuffing, Leg Restraints and Taser Training to these amazing humans.

After nearly two decades of Police Training, I needed to diversify my training skills and expand my knowledge base, so I leapt to the chance to join the fantastic team at IKON Training.

I am so impressed with the ethos and positive direction this company is moving in – particularly their work with restraint reduction and ongoing mission to keep people safe within the workplace.

IKON Training is an innovative and progressive company, and I am happy to say it already feels like home!
