About The Role
The Personal Safety Trainer – Physical Skills & PMVA is an operational training role responsible for delivering high-quality personal safety, conflict management, breakaway, and physical skills training across a range of sectors and environments.
Through engaging, practical, and learner-focused delivery, you will help individuals develop the confidence, skills, and judgement to work safely in challenging situations while supporting organisations in creating safer workplaces.
You will deliver a range of IKON programmes, including PMVA, breakaway disengagement, managing challenging behaviour, and conflict management training. The role requires someone who can confidently deliver both theory and practical physical skills content while maintaining safe, professional, and inclusive learning environments.
Working closely with the Training Director and the wider team, you will help maintain the high standards, credibility, and learner experience for which IKON is known.
Key Areas Of Responsibility
- Deliver IKON conflict management and challenging behaviour programmes to agreed delivery standards.
- Prepare thoroughly for each training event, including reviewing client briefs, lesson plans, resources, and risk assessments.
- Deliver engaging and learner-focused training that supports knowledge, confidence, and practical application.
- Adapt delivery methods as needed to meet learners’ needs while maintaining consistent learning outcomes.
- Maintain safe, professional, and inclusive learning environments.
- Manage learner engagement, group dynamics, and professional boundaries appropriately throughout delivery.
- Ensure training resources, equipment, and venues are suitable, prepared, and maintained to operational standards.
- Travel flexibly in line with operational and client requirements.
Physical Skills & Practical Training Delivery
- Deliver physical skills-based training safely, professionally, and in accordance with programme requirements.
- Demonstrate and coach practical techniques clearly and effectively to support learner confidence and competence.
- Ensure all practical activities are conducted in accordance with agreed safety procedures and organisational standards.
- Monitor learner participation and adapt practical activities where required to support safe and effective learning.
- Support learners in understanding the relationship between communication, prevention, de-escalation, and physical skills.
- Promote least restrictive, person-centred practice, recognising that any physical intervention should be lawful, proportionate, necessary, and used only as a last resort.
- Maintain professional competence and confidence in delivering practical skills and physical interventions.
Programme Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to the ongoing review and improvement of IKON training programmes and delivery approaches.
- Provide feedback to learners and clients to support programme development and continuous improvement.
- Support the development of training resources and learning materials where required.
- Maintain awareness of current legislation, guidance, and sector best practice relevant to personal safety and physical skills training.
- Contribute positively to team discussions, development activities, and operational improvements.
Communication, Reporting & Professional Standards
- Build and maintain professional relationships with learners, clients, and stakeholders.
- Complete registers, evaluations, reports, and training documentation within agreed timescales.
- Provide clear written summaries and follow-up information where required.
- Report safeguarding concerns, incidents, accidents, complaints, or operational risks in line with company procedures.
- Maintain professional certifications and notify IKON promptly of any relevant changes.
- Represent IKON professionally across all learner and client interactions.
- Act as a positive ambassador for IKON Training, upholding organisational values and professional standards.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience delivering personal safety, conflict management, or challenging behaviour training programmes.
- Experience delivering physical skills-based training.
- Experience teaching disengagement, breakaway, PMVA, or equivalent physical intervention techniques.
- Strong learner engagement and facilitation skills.
- Ability to adapt delivery approaches to suit different learner groups and operational environments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational skills and professional judgement.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel in line with operational requirements.
Desirable
- Current PMVA Instructor qualification or equivalent.
- BILD ACT certification or equivalent.
- Experience working within healthcare, mental health, social care, education, or specialist care environments.
- Experience delivering Managing Challenging Behaviour programmes.
- Experience delivering training within NHS or healthcare settings.
- Knowledge of blended or digital learning environments.
