Safer Streets Campaign to improve safety in our hometown

By IKON Training

A big congratulations to our clients Ipswich Borough Council, who have, for the third time, been awarded government funding from the Safer Streets Fund to improve safety in the town centre.

The campaign aims to help Ipswich become an even safer town that will make people feel more confident, particularly at night.

As part of its focus on tackling violence against women and girls, safer hubs with new help points will be created along with improvements to lighting, and smarter CCTV will be installed in the town, waterfront, and university areas.

We were commissioned to deliver De-escalation & Personal Safety Awareness Training to local charities and community groups. With an aim to raise self-awareness, improve confidence and teach people how to safely remove themselves from potential harm.

We taught skills to;

  • Recognise escalating behaviour
  • Reduce the risk of conflict occurring and implement measures to manage
  • Safely remove themselves from harm
  • Understand environmental and legal context of violence

The groups gave us some great feedback;

‘The training was very useful and informative. The way the trainer presented was very clear and helped gain us more confidence about safety of ourselves during work and personal life as well.’

‘Very clearly presented and information was well delivered.’

‘Friendly trainer, very welcoming and kind.’

‘I really recommend this course.’

We look forward to continuing to work with Ipswich Borough Council alongside this worthy endeavour.
