On 25 November, Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust were given Women’s Personal Safety seminars by IKON trainers Pat Lane and Sam Cherubin. Delivered via the innovative remote IKON Live platform, it was an information-packed event, well-received by all.
With rising levels of abuse being experienced by NHS staff due to staff shortages, personal safety is more important than it has ever been. In this article, we take a closer look at how IKON Live is helping to arm women with the knowledge they need to keep themselves safe.
IKON Live training is delivered entirely online and accessed via any internet-connected device, meaning that all NHS Trust attendees were receiving the training from either their workplaces or places of residence.
Among the topics covered were:
The training also included interactive exercises and live chat, focusing on dynamic risk assessments, communication, personal space and spotting the warning signs. Tips like ensuring you limit what you carry to free your hands represent just one provided to help female NHS staff stay safe.
This innovative approach to workplace learning was well received, with both IKON instructors enjoying the experience. Pat had this to say: “Both sessions went well. Everyone was very engaged, with lots of great responses and shared ideas.”
This was echoed by Sam “Great sessions, sharing information on personal safety for women. The group was interactive throughout, asking questions from the outset. This shows it’s a subject people are keen to know more about”.
James Crown, IKON’s training manager, was also in attendance, saying, “Really well-attended with about 45 people taking part in each session, all engaging verbally and via the group chat.
Discussing points, asking questions, seeking guidance on personal safety concerns and issues. A big thank to @JessicaHagerty and @Lewisham and Greenwich NHS trust for organising the session and all those who got involved.”
The many delegates attending the IKON Live seminars on Women’s Personal Safety wholeheartedly agreed with the positive experience expressed by the presenters, with one saying, “Very positive indeed, I am amazed this training can work so well online!” and another saying “Very productive training! I am so pleased that I attended. Thank you very much, Pat, Sam and James!”
The success of these seminars shows just how effective the IKON Live platform can be for delivering all kinds of vital staff instruction without the usual challenges that training en-masse presents.
All delivered remotely, there’s no need for a venue, excessive time away from work and the logistical issues that come with traditional forms of training.
Women deserve to feel safe in their professional and personal lives, and these seminars provide beneficial information to help women protect themselves. There are a number of additional resources for anyone wanting to know more on the subject, such as the Hollie Guard App, the Kitestring App, Streetsafe, and Ask For Angela Campaign, so there’s lots of help out there.
