MVA – Management of Violence & Aggression Training for the Transport Sector.

MVA (Management of Violence and Aggression) Training is aimed at transport staff working in environments where conflict and aggression can arise quickly, often in public spaces and with limited time to intervene.

Transport teams regularly deal with service disruption, delays, intoxication, fare disputes, refusal to comply, and antisocial behaviour. Our MVA training equips staff with practical skills to carry out dynamic risk assessments, de-escalate promptly and effectively and respond safely when situations become higher risk, helping protect staff, passengers, and the wider public.

This course provides the essential skills and strategies transport teams need to assess risk, de-escalate conflict and safely manage escalating incidents. Ensuring the safety and well-being of both staff and individuals involved.

Alongside this, learners will also be taught a range of physical skills appropriate to varying risk levels, including relocating individuals, breakaway and disengagement techniques, and safe holding or restrictive techniques when required.

  • Frontline passenger-facing staff – Manage aggression, complaints and challenging behaviour with calm authority while maintaining safety, professionalism and customer care.
  • Security & Travel Safe response teamsUse dynamic risk assessment and de-escalation to respond to incidents across the network, applying safe interventions to protect staff and passengers.
  • Revenue protection / ticketing teams – Handle fare disputes, refusal and non-compliance with clear boundaries, safer positioning and confident decision-making when situations escalate.
  • On-board staff (train / bus / tram) – De-escalate conflict in confined environments, manage risk when support isn’t immediately available, and keep incidents from impacting wider safety.
  • Duty managers & team leaders – Build consistency across teams, support staff before and after incidents, and lead effective reporting, debrief and learning following incidents.
