NHS TRAINING

MVA – Management of Violence & Aggression Training for the NHS.

MVA (Management of Violence and Aggression) training is designed for NHS teams working in environments where situations may escalate, and a safe, confident response is required.

NHS staff often work in high-pressure environments where distress, frustration, or aggression can escalate quickly.

Our MVA Training equips staff with practical skills to carry out dynamic risk assessments, de-escalate effectively, and respond safely using proportionate physical interventions when risk increases.

This course supports NHS teams who may need to respond when behaviour escalates within clinical or public areas.

The training covers practical de-escalation strategies, dynamic risk assessment, and the legal considerations around physical intervention, helping staff manage incidents safely while protecting patients, visitors, and colleagues.

  • A&E / Urgent Care teams – Manage heightened emotion, refusal, intoxication-related behaviour and rapidly changing risk with confident de-escalation and safer decision-making.
  • Security & response teams – Apply dynamic risk assessment, de-escalation and safe interventions to protect staff, patients and visitors, and maintain safer clinical and public environments.
  • Ambulance/patient transport interfaces – Manage conflict and aggression during handovers, transfers and transitions where environments are unpredictable, and support may be limited.
  • Site managers – Reinforce policy and consistent practice across services, support teams during incidents, and lead to effective post–incident reporting, debrief and organisational learning.
  • Portering teams – Support colleagues in high-pressure areas using structured de-escalation, safer positioning, and appropriate interventions when incidents escalate.
