COURSE OUTLINE

MVA – Management of Violence & Aggression Training.

MVA (Management of Violence and Aggression) training is designed for professionals working in higher-risk roles where situations may escalate and require a safe, confident response.

This is most commonly associated with security teams and roles responsible for responding to escalated situations. These roles often involve protecting people, property or public spaces when incidents escalate.

The course explores the causes and triggers behind escalating behaviour and develops practical strategies for recognising risk early.

MVA (Management of Violence and Aggression) Training is designed for staff working in environments where aggression, conflict or physical confrontation may present a real operational risk.

Most appropriate for organisations operating in higher-risk environments, prevention alone is not always sufficient. Both teams and individuals must also know how to respond safely if a situation escalates.

Learners develop a range of proportionate physical skills appropriate to different levels of risk. Including non-restrictive relocating techniques, disengagement and breakaway techniques, and safe holding/restrictive techniques when required.

  • Staff in roles facing physical risk – Staff working in environments where aggression, threats or physical confrontation may occur. Develop the confidence to assess risk, make safer decisions, and disengage from escalating situations.
  • Enforcement staff – Teams managing compliance, refusals and confrontational situations in public-facing environments. Learn practical de-escalation, dynamic risk assessment, and proportionate intervention techniques.
  • Healthcare security – Security teams supporting clinical and public areas where incidents can escalate quickly. Build confidence in de-escalation, positioning and safe responses with patients, visitors and service users.
  • Public transport staff (travel safe / passenger safety teams) – Staff responding to incidents across the network, including antisocial behaviour, disputes and aggression. Learn safer approaches to managing risk in busy, fast-moving public environments.
  • Security & events staff – Teams responsible for managing crowds, venue entry and intoxication-related incidents. Strengthen de-escalation skills, tactical positioning, and safe interventions to protect the public and colleagues.
  • Managers & supervisors – Leaders responsible for team safety and operational consistency. Strengthen decision-making during incidents and understand best practices for post-incident review and learning.
