IKON at the Eastern Education Show

Posted: June 22, 2022,

The Eastern Education Show took place on 16 June at Newmarket Racecourse. Not only was it a fantastic feeling to get back to such events in person, but what an event to be involved in – the region’s leading event for the development of school management, learning and teaching.

Networking and meeting clients

The day was an excellent opportunity for education professionals to share experiences. They met with leading educational suppliers – such as IKON Training. As exhibitors, we not only met potential clients but also bumped into a few existing clients. We also enjoyed networking with other lead providers in the education sector.

The delegates represented all types of schools from across the East of England. The great thing about being at such an event is that it’s attended by the decision-makers: headteachers, budget holders, business managers, and the senior leadership team. We were able to have some meaningful conversations and make some great contacts for the future. Helping to introduce strategies for promoting positive behaviour in schools is a rewarding part of our role.

Focus for the day

Delegates were treated to two inspirational speakers. Paul McGee, the author of SUMO, focused on resilience, communication skills and well-being.  Martine Wright MBE, a survivor of 7/7, shared her story “from despair to determination”. A truly inspiring story of how life can change without warning and how Martine has turned that life-changing day into an opportunity to embrace a new life and the success it has resulted in.

Alongside the keynote speakers were leaders in the sector discussing OFSTED, recruitment issues, resilience and online safety – just a few subjects included in the programme for the day.

IKON’s focus

As always, IKON’s focus is on people feeling safe and confident in their place of work. Linking nicely with Paul McGee’s talk, we provide training to teach skills for people working in education and further learning to feel safe and confident by positively managing challenging behaviours in the classroom.

Introducing practical communication skills can de-escalate challenging behaviours successfully. The challenging behaviours experienced in the Early Years may differ from that in further education, and as such other techniques for managing conflict and challenging behaviour will be needed. IKON recognises that training needs to be sector-specific and offers training for conflict resolution skills and challenging behaviour specifically for education. Whether this is provided via IKON Live remote training or in-person, we focus on teaching and supporting staff in feeling safe and confident when dealing with challenging behaviour. We support education staff on how to promote positive behaviour in schools.

Our bespoke training content focuses on the needs and challenges faced in school, and our flexible approach to remote or in-person learning focuses on the needs of the delegates.
