Staff spotlight: Jon
At 16, I signed up for the British Army; I was fortunate to be able to join the Greatest Regiment, The Grenadier Guards. I travelled around the world with postings to Northern Ireland, Germany and Kenya, as well as taking part in a public duties’ role in London, Guarding Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle and taking part in trooping the colour and the state opening of parliament.
After my time in the Army, I spent some time as an aviation security officer at Stansted Airport, where I met my wife, Sarah.
My love for being in a uniformed and disciplined organisation led me to join the Police, where I spent the next 26 years working in Cambridgeshire Police and The Metropolitan Police; my areas of work included Armed response, close protection, counter-terrorism and surveillance. I have had the pleasure of protecting 3 former Prime ministers and many other dignitaries.
Towards the end of my police career, I transitioned into training. I spent the last few years of my service delivering personal safety and first aid training to new officers and staff.
I have always been passionate about training and sharing my experiences from the last 38 years. I have taken my training further, delivering trauma training to the offshore wind farm industry, the fire service and community first responders for the ambulance service.
I am a volunteer Community First responder for EEAST and help deliver first aid training to school children for MAGPAS.
I have been Married to Sarah for 25 years, and we have two wonderful daughters, Aimee, a paediatric nurse, and Olivia, 21, a dog groomer.
WE HAVE A DOG… Chewie the Golden Doodle (our 3rd child)
My passions outside work are running, walking, and Body Pump at our gym. Sarah and I love the theatre, Les Misérables being one of our favourite shows, and we annually travel to Edinburgh for the Fringe.
Laurel and Hardy are my all-time comedy heroes, and one day I want to have a go at stand-up comedy. Finally, I have been a movie extra in a couple of films… but I don’t talk about it!
During my first few weeks at IKON, I have been busy and made to feel very welcome, travelling around with the other IKON trainers shadowing training and learning the IKON way; I’m looking forward to the next part of my journey, and starting to train the large variety of clients that IKON support.
