Staff Spotlight: Tim Hanwell

Posted: January 11, 2022,

Tim Hanwell, one of our most experienced trainers.

Tim has been with IKON for 12 years. Like a few of our trainers, Tim started out working for the Police and later moved into Adult psychiatry as a Prevention Management of Violence and Aggression Trainer. Tim’s ability to use his past experiences, mixed with his passion for developing people, is what makes him one of the best trainers in the industry.

Hear from Tim below about his journey so far with IKON Training.

“I started my career as a police officer, back when wooden truncheons in the trouser pocket were still a thing. I moved into adult psychiatry, where I followed a pathway to becoming a Prevention Management of Violence and Aggression Trainer.

Joining the IKON team in 2009, I gained significant development skills as a trainer, predominantly focused within the NHS. I have used my adaptable training skills across other IKON sectors. I have spent a lot of time working with Transport and built a great rapport with the team up in Liverpool, working with Merseyrail. It is very different to Healthcare. The challenges they face on the network are entirely different; however, I get great satisfaction when I see first-hand the benefits of training within all workplaces.

I have a passion for developing people and enjoy the Train the Trainer programmes that I deliver for our clients; again, it’s about being part of the journey, building a relationship, and seeing the progression that I enjoy the most. Over the past few years, I have had to adapt and embrace delivering remote training online; it presented some challenges as a trainer. I quickly learned how to build connections when you are not physically present. The benefits for some of our clients have been evident, and I now look forward to the variety that teaching online affords.

Work-life balance is essential to me, and I juggle my time between work, family, bread making and metal detecting with my grandson. I am optimistic about what the future holds, and I would encourage anyone else to be also.”
